New to the editor? Start with Create a discount or Edit a discount. The Dashboard is where your discount list lives — see How the app works.

Why use this

  • Keep a copy of a promotion’s settings on your computer (separate from the discount in Shopify).
  • Start a new discount from a copy you made earlier, in the same store.
  • Reuse your work in another store (for example a second brand): save the file in one shop, add the app in the other shop, then import and finish setup there. Install the app in each store, check display currencies and your plan, and always test in checkout.
Import and export are one discount at a time (one file per save). They do not replace a live discount in Shopify until you save the new or edited discount in the app.

Your export file

When you use Export rule, the app downloads a .txt file. Treat it like anything that describes your pricing and customers: only share it with people you trust, and keep it in a place your team already uses for sensitive business information. The file name includes which kind of discount it is and a short number from Shopify, so you can tell files apart on your computer after you have several saves.

Export a discount you already have

1

Open the discount

In the Smarty Dashboard, click the discount you want a copy of.
2

Export

In the top bar, click Export rule. Your browser saves the file (usually in your Downloads folder).
3

File location

Move or rename the file if you like — just keep a copy where you can find it later.

Import when you are on the Dashboard

Use this when you are not sure which type of discount the file is for, or you want the app to take you to the right Create screen.
1

Open Smarty

AppsSmarty DiscountsDashboard.
2

Import

Click Import rule, select your .txt file. The app opens the new discount flow for that promotion type.
3

Check everything, then save

Read through titles, codes, dates, Combinations, and any money amounts (especially in other currencies if you use them). When it looks right, save to create the new discount in this store.

After you move between two stores

Promotions that mention specific collections, products, customer tags, or segments still point to how the old store was set up. In the new store, open each condition and re-pick products, collections, and customer rules so they match the new catalog and customers. Always run a test order to confirm the discount applies as you expect.

Import while you are already creating a discount

Use this when you already clicked Create discount and picked a type (for example Amount off product).
1

Open Create discount and pick a type

Follow Create a discount until the editor is open for one discount type.
2

Import rule

Click Import rule in the top bar and choose your .txt file.
3

If it says the type does not match

The file was saved from a different kind of discount (for example a shipping rule, but you opened a product discount). Start again: either pick the matching type, or use Import rule from the Dashboard so the app picks the type for you.
4

Review and save

The form fills in from the file. Change anything you need, then save.

Small changes the app may make for you

To avoid odd titles left over from copies (like repeated “Copy of” on the name) and to avoid using segment rules from the wrong shop by mistake, the app may clear or simplify a few fields when you import. Always read the form before you save.

If something is missing

  • This flow saves one discount setup per file, not your whole list at once.
  • Import is meant to start a new discount (or pre-fill while you create). It does not overwrite a different live discount by itself — you still Save in the editor.
The store you import into has its own plan and limits. A heavy rule in one shop may need an upgrade in another, and Test mode rules still follow your current plan when you save.
