# Install Smarty Discounts on Shopify

> Do this once before you create your first discount. Install Smarty Discounts from the Shopify App Store, open it from Admin, and optionally enable the theme app embed.

## Install Smarty Discounts

  <Step title="Open the App Store">
    In **Shopify Admin**, go to the **Shopify App Store** (or use the install link your team gave you).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the app">
    Find **Smarty Discounts** and click **Add app**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve permissions">
    Read the permissions and click **Install** (or **Approve**).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for setup">
    Wait until Shopify finishes installing.
  </Step>

## Open the app

    In Shopify Admin, click **Apps**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Smarty Discounts">
    Click **Smarty Discounts**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Dashboard">
    You should see **Dashboard** — your discount list and **Create discount** / **Browse use cases**.

<Tip>
  **Settings** and **Billing** are in the Smarty app menu. Open them when you reach [Settings](settings). For a map of the screen, see [How the app works](how-the-app-works).

## Optional: theme app embed

Use this if you rely on **storefront** features (widgets or scripts on your online store). Discounts still work at **checkout** without it.

    **Online Store** → **Themes**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Customize">
    **Customize** on your live theme (or duplicate the theme to test).
  </Step>

  <Step title="App embeds">
    Open **App embeds** (wording may vary by theme).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable Smarty">
    Find **Smarty Discounts** and **turn it on**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    **Save**.
  </Step>
